Five Months Old

How in the world is my baby boy about to be HALF a year old?! I seriously can't believe it. He has enriched our lives more than we ever could have imagined! The past week has been pretty rough for the Davis family. We have all been sick with what I call the "daycare crud" which consists of a runny nose, congestion, and a cough. I stayed home from work with William on Monday and took him to the pediatrician on Thursday because he was still very congested. He started on his first antibiotic on his 5 month birthday :( He's doing much better now! It's so hard seeing your little one not feeling well.

 William is hooked on Baby Einstein. Every night before bed he watches the Lullaby Baby Einstein video and always falls asleep mid-way through. I hate plopping him in front of the laptop but it works like a charm, and I figured since it's "educational" we aren't that terrible of parents ;)

At 5 months, William is blossoming into such a personality-filled little boy, who loves people and babbling. I think he's close to sitting up and before we know it, he'll be crawling. Grant and I like to put him on our bed and go stand at the door because he will flail his body around trying to get to us. He really wants to crawl! He doesn't go back for a check-up until he is 6 months, so I don't have any new stats to report but my guess is that he's at least 20 lbs. Since he's been a little sickly the past couple of days, he wants to be held more and is much more cuddly that he usually is which truly warms my heart.
He's still wearing size 3 diapers and mostly 12 month clothes. I started rice cereal when he was 4.5 months old and so far he isn't a fan of it or any food for that matter. So far we've tried regular rice cereal, banana rice cereal, bananas, carrots, green beans, pears, and he spits ALL of it out. I'm not sure what to do about this. Maybe he isn't ready yet? Thankfully I don't have to worry about his weight so I'm not panicked quite yet. We will just keep trying!
The past couple of weeks he has taken a 2 hour nap in the morning and usually a 1.5 hour nap in the afternoon, and sometimes a short nap late in the afternoon. He's still our happy baby that rarely cries unless he's overly tired or hungry.
He loves grabbing his feet! It wouldn't surprise me if his feet ended up in his mouth pretty soon.
He loves playing in his jumperoo and has figured out how to spin around in it, so he can play with all of the different dangling toys. If we tell him to "jump William" he will usually go nuts and start jumping like crazy.
He's still very curious and constantly checking out his surroundings. His newest fascination is ceiling fans and staring at himself in the mirror. He also likes playing with his rubber duck in the bathtub. I'm so thankful that William likes bath time because he is ALL boy when it comes to playing and gets very grimy!
There are no words to describe our love for this baby boy! We love you William and feel so blessed that God gave you to us!

Congrats to Douglas and Kayla!

My BABY brother and future sister-in-law got engaged the Thursday before William's baptism. Needless to say, our family is head over heels about Kayla joining "The Shaw's," even though it feels like she's already part of the fam because she and Douglas have been dating on and off again since they were freshman in high school! Not only is she drop dead gorgeous, she has a heart of gold. As cheesy as it sounds, I'm so excited to have another sister-in-law. There's something special about a relationship with a sister-in-law and I'm blessed to have 2 great ones! We love you Aunt Kayla and Uncle Doug!

Christening Continued...

We waited to dress William in his gown at the church because I knew he'd be a hot mess if we tried transporting him in it. Once we arrived, we didn't have much time for pictures but my sweet cousin, Lee, snapped all of the pictures below. We are so thankful to have her back in Birmingham and glad she could be a part of William's special day.

Each grandchild will wear this gown and have their name and baptism date added to the Christening slip - such a special touch that I know will be treasured for years to come. My mom put so much thought into this family heirloom and I will be forever grateful to her for this!
I don't think I've mentioned this on the blog before but William's godparents are Ragan and Kyle. William is one blessed little boy to have them in his life. They went up to the front of the church with Grant and me when he was baptized. I couldn't have been more proud to have them standing next to us as we made our vow to be Christian parents to William. I know they will be wonderful role models to him for many years to come.

This picture crack me up! Loving all of the attention!

Some of these are i-phone pics below. The best pictures are always caught on my phone!

Look at that wrist and dimples on his hand! CHUNK!
 As usual, just eating his fist :)

 A rare family photo

The most special part of the entire weekend was Sam presenting William for Holy Baptism in front of the entire congregation. I still get emotional thinking about it. He did such an amazing job! It's no easy task being 82 years old and speaking in front of a room full of people with very little preparation. He has been a faithful member of FUMC Dothan for many years.
Introducing William Crozier Davis

The closing hymn was "I Need Thee Every Hour." I sat next to Sam during the service, so we shared a hymnal as we sang this song. As I heard my grandfather proudly sing with a boldness and faithfulness that only a man of 82 years can, I really paid close attention to the words in the hymn, which I must admit I rarely do. I pray that William will always know that he needs God every hour of everyday.
Grant and I promising to instill Christian values in our child for all the years to come. To be completely honest, we both took these vows as seriously if not more seriously as our wedding vows.

Some of the verses to my new favorite hymn:

I need Thee every hour, in joy or pain;
Come quickly and abide, or life is in vain.

I need Thee every hour; teach me Thy will;
And Thy rich promises in me fulfill.

I need Thee every hour, most Holy One;
O make me Thine indeed, Thou blessèd Son.

So thankful that Lee got these pictures.

Something special that Dr. Sanders does after christening a baby is walk up and down the aisle singing, "Jesus has little bitty William in his hands, he's got little bitty William in his hands, he's got little bitty William in his hands, he's got the whole world in his hands." This was my favorite part of the service. William just looked around and took it all in.
After the service everyone headed to my parent's house for a luncheon. My mom worked tirelessly to make this weekend so special for us, and she definitely delivered! She said next Davis baby will be christened at our church in Birmingham ;)

It was such a wonderful, memorable day! Now the real work lies ahead...teaching William all about our Lord and Savior.

William's Christening - September 9, 2012

I'm going to break up William's Christening weekend into 2 posts because there is just too much I want to jot down for my own memory, and this blog is our family's scrapbook. I realize nobody wants to see 500 pictures or hear about every little detail, but it's important to me that we remember all of these sweet moments.

Last Sunday was a very special day for our little family. William was christened at First United Methodist Church in Dothan, and Grant and I vowed before the church to raise him as a Christian. We went back and forth about whether to baptize him in Birmingham at our church or in Dothan. Ultimately, we chose FUMC Dothan because he was the 4th generation to be christened in this church, and I wanted my grandparents to be a part of this day. We left Birmingham early Saturday morning and had a relaxing day watching football, eating chili dogs, and spending time with the newly engaged couple, Douglas and Kayla. More to come on this wonderful news later!
 Watching football and playing with his new toy from Juju. My mom was concerned we didn't have enough stimulating toys so she picked up a few at the baby store in Dothan :) Abigail, the dog, was very jealous of William's new toys.

Saturday night my grandparents came over for a lasagna dinner. Seeing Sam interact with William may be one of the sweetest things I've ever witnessed. William LOVES Sam and is always smiling in his presence.  These pictures are a little blurry but make me so happy.
My mom did a beautiful job decorating for the luncheon after the baptism. Maybe one day I'll be able to set a table and cook like her. I've been saying that for years. It's always, "after we have a baby I'll do this, or when we move in the new house I'll do that, or on my days off I'll prepare a great meal for dinner." The reality is it never happens, but I'm not giving up quite yet.
 If I still lived with my parents I'd never leave this porch. It's so peaceful.

 Sunday morning, I woke up super early to start getting ready for the day. William and Grant slept in until about 8:30 so I was able to get a lot done :) When William finally woke up, we decided to try on his little bonnet before we got to the church. We all got a major kick out of our little linebacker in his christening bonnet. We have more pictures of him in his diaper and bonnet than we do in the gown.

 He found his feet a couple of days before we headed to Dothan and is quite impressed with them :) However, this latest obsession has made diaper changes quite difficult.

 He was so happy this morning and full of giggles and smiles.
 And we couldn't resist not putting him in my Christening bonnet, even though it's very lacy and girly!
Next up: pictures from the church and luncheon that followed.
