Memorial Day in TX

We will forever remember this Memorial Day weekend for more reasons than one! Little William decided to spread the stomach bug throughout the Davis family :( The trip started without a hitch. We left Saturday morning and William did great on the plane. When we arrived at Granny's house, we smothered our newest member of the family, Baby Tyler, with love and kisses. Then we grilled out hamburgers and hot dogs for dinner. All was well...

Payton was very excited to introduce Aunt Caroline to her baby brother :)

Those eyelashes!! He's such a sweet, laid back baby! I guess you have to be with two older sisters!

I don't even remember William being this tiny. I almost felt nervous holding him because he seemed SO little. It's crazy to think William was this little just 10 months ago.

Payton was all about posing for some pics, and she's quite the little model!

William loved walking back and forth from one end to another on Granny's new back patio.

Sweet Papes!

Payton was SO sweet to William! She's grown up so much!

Until...around 4am the next morning when William woke up screaming. I quickly picked him up and he proceeded to throw up all over me, Grant, the pack n' play, the floor, and the sheets. Surprisingly, Grant and I stayed calm even though this was our first run-in with William and the stomach bug. We put him in the bathtub at 4am and prayed we wouldn't wake Payton (4 years old), Finley (20 months old), and Tyler (3 months old). We later found out Dana heard all the commotion because she was up feeding baby Tyler at that time. The next day William was back to his happy self and we didn't give too much thought to the horrific night. We had a wonderful time playing outside with all of the water slides & pools that Granny bought for the weekend. Granny made a delicious meal that evening! Greg and Grant grilled steaks and chicken and we had roasted sweet potatoes, corn, pea salad, and a delicious fruit pizza with a brownie crust! After dinner, Dana, Greg and their kids headed back to Waco to try and escape the stomach bug.

Some of these pics are blurry from William splashing water all over my camera!

Sweet Finley was a little groggy. She had just woken up from one of her long naps! I SO wish William napped like she does!

Payton repeatedly said, "Aunt Caroline, take my picture because I want to see how fast I can go down the slide."
William was getting a little sleepy. He went down for a long nap this afternoon!

 Cute Dana and Finley!
The best pic we could get of the older 3 :)
These two are so funny together! Finley is 7 months older than William but they are just about the same size :) Finley really wanted William to play with her but he wasn't so sure.
Double fistin' juice boxes. I was trying to keep him hydrated!

 This girl loves the water!
 It was so gorgeous!
The water has been so low in front of Granny's lake house so we didn't get the boat out this trip!

On Monday, Grant, William, and I enjoyed spending time outside with Granny. William loved splashing in the water! I think we definitely have a water baby on our hands.

Mommy and Daddy even braved the chilly water in the baby pools.

Monday evening was when things got very ugly for us! Grant had just grilled pork chops for dinner and came in saying he wasn't feeling so hot. I thought it was because he was sunburned, had 2 margaritas while grilling, and was tired. Brenda and I kept making fun of him because we thought he was being a wimp. Well fast forward 3 hrs. and then I started feeling sick! At around midnight, Grant and I both started throwing up and things went downhill quickly from that point on. We were up ALL night long. In the middle of the night, we decided we wouldn't be able to make our 10am flight. When the sun came up, Grant decided he'd go to the ER for meds so I could continue sleeping, while Brenda watched William. Five hours later Grant got back to the house after IV fluids and IV nausea meds. Thankfully, the doctor also prescribed nausea meds that he brought home for me. Grant and I pretty much didn't get off the couch all day Tuesday. We rescheduled our flight for Wednesday morning and made it home without incident.

Now I realize how truly amazing children are when they are sick! William really didn't seem phased by the stomach bug. He continued moving, laughing, drinking, and eating (a little). We still had a wonderful trip and really enjoyed spending time with family! Thank you Brenda for all of the wonderful meals, water toys, and keeping William entertained while Grant and I were near death :) So far only Payton has fallen victim to the stomach bug. I had hoped to get a picture of Granny and all 4 of her grandbabies but we tried to keep our distance due to the bug!

13 Months Old

I was hesitant about continuing on with the monthly posts, but I decided there's just too much I want to remember going on in W's 2nd year! {Side note: These pictures were taken in TX over Memorial Day weekend. The pictures don't go along with the writing. I have another post for our trip!}

William started drinking from a sippy cup this past month! That's big news around here. We started off with a "training sippy" that has a bottle nipple (Nuby brand) and then we his school gradually introduced a real sippy with a spout. One day I picked him up and they excitedly proclaimed, "Put up the bottles. William drinks from a sippy cup now." Well...we're not 100% bottle-free at our house yet. He still takes a bottle (aka we GIVE him a bottle) before bed and right when he wakes up in the morning. However, he uses the sippy only for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and an afternoon snack. He still refuses to drink anything other than milk, but he'll get there!

(His favorite thing to do is "bark" like a dog)

William got 2 of his bottom molars and 2 top molars are cutting through at the moment. So, with his 4 top front teeth and 2 bottom front teeth, this makes 10 total teeth. Thankfully he actually likes for his teeth to be brushed, so that hasn't been too much of a battle!

William's receptive language has been the most fun milestone to witness over the past month. For instance, if we say any of the following phrases he will respond appropriately: "drink your milk," "give me the ball," "where's daddy/mommy," "bring me your shoes," "give me kisses," "bark like a dog," "let's brush your teeth," "time to take a bath."

His expressive language still hasn't taken off as I expected. I think I need to brush up on my speech/language development knowledge. The pediatrician laughed at me when I told him I was concerned he wasn't saying many words. He says dada, baba, "hiiiieee" for hi, "daw" for dog, "eeee oooh" for cheese toast, and "cuh-eee" for cookie, and that about sums up his vocabulary :)

His sleep schedule is pretty much the same. He goes down at 7pm and wakes up between 6-6:30. At home he takes a morning and afternoon nap, and the length of the nap varies. At school he takes one nap from 12-1:15.

His favorite breakfast foods are cheese toast, oatmeal, and any cereal. For lunch, he'll eat pretty much anything. He LOVES any of the fruit/veggie squeeze packs so he usually gets two of those a day. I've even gotten him to eat spinach plain with nothing mixed in with it. He also likes yogurt, mac n' cheese, sweet potatoes (his fav), turkey (fav meat), animal crackers, goldfish, any type of pasta, peanut butter, chicken (sometimes), and that's all I can think of for now.

Another thing I've noticed over the past month is that William wants to be more independent which has led to some meltdowns and frustrating moments. He's constantly climbing on the furniture, trying to splash in the toilet, opening cabinets (esp. the cabinets with breakable items/poisonous cleaners), climbing up the stairs, etc...I love seeing him learn so many things but it's exhausting keeping up with him!!

We also found out that he's going to have a minor eye procedure for a clogged tear duct in the middle of June. At the pediatrician's recommendation, I took him to a pediatric opthamologist for a closer look. It's not a medically necessary procedure but the teary/gooky eye is annoying to us, and I'm sure we annoy William by constantly wiping it. He will have to have anesthesia which we are nervous about, but we've been reassured by several doctor friends that we should proceed. More on that as the time approaches.

Happy 13 months William! You are one spunky, sweet, loving, hilarious little boy!
