William started drinking from a sippy cup this past month! That's big news around here. We started off with a "training sippy" that has a bottle nipple (Nuby brand) and then we his school gradually introduced a real sippy with a spout. One day I picked him up and they excitedly proclaimed, "Put up the bottles. William drinks from a sippy cup now." Well...we're not 100% bottle-free at our house yet. He still takes a bottle (aka we GIVE him a bottle) before bed and right when he wakes up in the morning. However, he uses the sippy only for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and an afternoon snack. He still refuses to drink anything other than milk, but he'll get there!
William got 2 of his bottom molars and 2 top molars are cutting through at the moment. So, with his 4 top front teeth and 2 bottom front teeth, this makes 10 total teeth. Thankfully he actually likes for his teeth to be brushed, so that hasn't been too much of a battle!
William's receptive language has been the most fun milestone to witness over the past month. For instance, if we say any of the following phrases he will respond appropriately: "drink your milk," "give me the ball," "where's daddy/mommy," "bring me your shoes," "give me kisses," "bark like a dog," "let's brush your teeth," "time to take a bath."
His expressive language still hasn't taken off as I expected. I think I need to brush up on my speech/language development knowledge. The pediatrician laughed at me when I told him I was concerned he wasn't saying many words. He says dada, baba, "hiiiieee" for hi, "daw" for dog, "eeee oooh" for cheese toast, and "cuh-eee" for cookie, and that about sums up his vocabulary :)
His sleep schedule is pretty much the same. He goes down at 7pm and wakes up between 6-6:30. At home he takes a morning and afternoon nap, and the length of the nap varies. At school he takes one nap from 12-1:15.
His favorite breakfast foods are cheese toast, oatmeal, and any cereal. For lunch, he'll eat pretty much anything. He LOVES any of the fruit/veggie squeeze packs so he usually gets two of those a day. I've even gotten him to eat spinach plain with nothing mixed in with it. He also likes yogurt, mac n' cheese, sweet potatoes (his fav), turkey (fav meat), animal crackers, goldfish, any type of pasta, peanut butter, chicken (sometimes), and that's all I can think of for now.
Another thing I've noticed over the past month is that William wants to be more independent which has led to some meltdowns and frustrating moments. He's constantly climbing on the furniture, trying to splash in the toilet, opening cabinets (esp. the cabinets with breakable items/poisonous cleaners), climbing up the stairs, etc...I love seeing him learn so many things but it's exhausting keeping up with him!!
We also found out that he's going to have a minor eye procedure for a clogged tear duct in the middle of June. At the pediatrician's recommendation, I took him to a pediatric opthamologist for a closer look. It's not a medically necessary procedure but the teary/gooky eye is annoying to us, and I'm sure we annoy William by constantly wiping it. He will have to have anesthesia which we are nervous about, but we've been reassured by several doctor friends that we should proceed. More on that as the time approaches.
Happy 13 months William! You are one spunky, sweet, loving, hilarious little boy!
