He's trying to "talk" more, even though we still don't understand 90% of what comes out of his mouth. He's also really into "singing." At school, they've been working on several songs with hand motions. Whenever William wants us to sing with him he puts his hands up in the air and starts doing what he thinks is "singing". We sing Itsy Bitsy Spider, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Jesus Loves Me, Bringing Home my Baby Bumble Bee, and You are My Sunshine over and over. He also loves to dance in the car.
His still all time favorite noise is barking like a dog. I caught him mid-bark in the top left picture :)
Over the past couple of days he will NOT let me feed him with a spoon. He wants to do it himself which has been no easy transition for this certifiable OCD neat freak mommy. It's a battle I've decided I'm going to lose. I can't think of too many new foods that he's tried this month. He'll eat pretty much any meat/starch but still only really likes the squeeze pouches of fruits and veggies. I'll get those down whatever way I can! He dropped the bottle completely shortly after he turned 13 months, but he still only drinks milk - no water or juice.
His hair is getting LONG and the curls are still in full force ;)
He's still in the same classroom at school and won't move up to the next one until August. I'm dreading that transition because he will be napping on a NAP MAT. His teachers are in for a rude awakening because I cannot imagine him electively sleeping without being caged in :) He rarely cries when I leave him and is always happy when I pick him up!
He loves to drag around trash bags.
As I've mentioned in previous posts, he is quite the water baby!!
The biggest news this month is William had his blocked tear duct procedure last week {Warning: Stop reading here if you don't handle the sight of blood well}. We had to be at Children's South at 6:30am and William couldn't have anything to drink/eat past midnight the evening before. Grant and I went back and forth about whether to wake him up at 11:30pm for a sippy cup with milk and we decided not to! I'm glad we didn't because William was so distracted by the time we got to Children's South, he didn't have time to think about eating breakfast and having his usual sippy with milk! I was so relieved because that would've been miserable had he been upset prior to surgery.
Here is our sweet baby before surgery. He was having so much fun cruisin' the halls in this little car. Grant and I both got a little emotional when we handed William over to the nurse to go back for surgery. It was a pretty surreal moment for me. I've held the hands of many parents and children before surgeries, but I had no idea just how nerve wracking it was until I was in their shoes. I kept reminding myself William was having a 15 minute, very minor eye surgery, and some of the parents I work with are sending their children back for 10 hour brain surgeries. Perspective.
And here is our little angel when they brought him back to us. It was very hard for us to see him all swollen and with an IV :( I'm so thankful that our friend Emily warned me that he'd be swollen when he came back from recovery.
William was extremely irritable and feisty when they brought him to us. Grant had to hold him in this position and sing to him to keep him calm. Shortly after these peaceful pictures were taken, his IV fell out and blood started squirting everywhere. I was wearing white pants and I was COVERED in blood. I ran to get a nurse, and even she was flustered trying to stop the blood coming from his IV. I ended up leaving the hospital in scrubs because we were afraid that I would scare other families because I looked like a scene out of a horror movie.
He had a 3 hr. nap when we got home. We thought all was well until we woke up to this...
His opthamologist is so wonderful! I cannot say enough wonderful things about this physician. She gave me her cell phone # so I could text her pictures if I had any concerns. Needless to say, when she received this pic, she was a little worried and advised me to keep an eye on it (no pun intended!) for one more day. Thankfully, the next day William woke up with a clear eye! She did have to insert a tiny tube that he'll have removed in September unless it comes out before then. We are very thankful to have this behind us!
